An interdisciplinary MSU research team will use recent National Science Foundation funding to develop soil-sensing technology to track nitrate dynamics for improved soil health and water quality.

CREWS researchers awarded NSF grant to study water quality

CREWS project researchers Stephanie Ewing, Rob Payn, Ann Marie Reinhold, and Stephan Warnat were awarded $944,000 from the National Science Foundation to study the efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers and their impact on soil health and water quality in the Judith River Watershed. The goal of the project is to create a more complete picture of exactly how nitrogen moves through soil and groundwater systems using sensors embedded in the ground at various research sites.

CREWS Role Models Matter Training Available from spectrUM

As part of CREWS' focus on providing professional development opportunities for students and faculty on the project, Jessie Herbert-Meny from spectrUM Discovery Area presented a virtual Role Models Matter training in early March. The training focused on three main areas to effectively engage public audiences: 1) How people learn in informal settings, 2) Components of a successful role model event, and 3) Facilitation pointers.
